  1. Gabe,
I'm liking back and front cover number one. It looks like youre seeing through a leaf shaped window and its very cool. Number two isn't really doing it for me simply because the striped make it look like youre cutting into the picture and its a little distracting. Number three is cool too but when it comes down to it, I think you should go with number one. Great job on these, by the way. They are all very good.

  2. Gabe,
I really like the 3rd cover. It is the one that gave me a better idea what your book is about. The picture for the cover is so clear, but the background makes it interesting. The back cover is just a really cool desing that draws my eye in and all around.

Critique of the entire book---The pictures are beautiful. They are clear and the colors are vibrant. I love that some pictures are simply whatever you have take a picture of and some of them you have manipulated. Even with the manipulation it is still clear what the picture is, it is not what you would actually see with your eyes.

  3. I see you've met my good friend Photoshop ! Some of these photo manipulations are very fun to look at, but this takes me very far away from the idea of a traditional book. Have you considered something more un-orthodox like a long scroll or a leaflet of posters ? Since you're pushing the bounds of "beauty in nature", I would move more towards pushing a "book" as well. This way, your covers could become part of the book as well (with text removed perhaps). Just to clarify, I couldn't see myself picking any single one the covers because they all looked more like they belong inside the book.

  4. Gabe,
These are some pretty psychedelic photos! As far as covers go, I'd lean towards either the 1st or 3rd (a little more towards the 3rd). I really like the crazy nature of the first one, but would just make the title stand out a little more. I think the third one is the most unique though; I definitely like the image juxtaposed on a twisted background like that. And I do like your idea to use a negative image for the back of the book.

As far as the photos go, they're crazy, but very interesting to look at. I really liked the second one down of the power box, but I wouldn't think it really goes with your overall concept. I think you got a cool idea using different effects on different objects in a single image. Keep messing around with that! Definitely looking forward to seeing more!

  5. These pictures are looking really interesting. I like book cover number 3 because I believe it has to do more with your concept then the other ones. I like how you are using photoshop for new interesting looks but don't lose to much of the actual species for some of them. It would make a great mixture of both. I can't wait to see more and where you take this.

  6. I like the first cover you posted, Front Cover 01. It is aesthetically pleasing and I think the two images you chose to combine work well together. I’m not entirely sure if I enjoy all the crazy effects, but they certainly make the covers more interesting.
The way you switched from taking photos of Northwest Florida to foliage to making interesting unexpected digital photos of the foliage is great. You are pushing your original idea and you’re doing well at it. The only photo that doesn’t belong is the switch box, but I think the effects on it are pretty cool. Good job!

  7. The first cover for sure, but i might change the font to something more sans-serif to combat all those organic shapes that consume the cover. The textures of the first one are so nice to look at, plus the inverse of the front for the back is a subtle way of making a cohesive cover. My second pick would be the third one, though the beehive texture on the back isn't connecting with the front for me. Looks like you're having a lot of fun with filters, keep exploring and trying new things!

  8. I am with the gang on #1 really working the best, and I do think that Marva has some interesting ideas about unorthodox formats. I also agree with Haley about the font seems to be competing a bit with the busy image behind it. You need something that is simple and bold, that will pop off of all of that activity.

Otherwise, nice work and I looks like you are having a great deal of fun. It is obvious that you are letting the image speak to you, and you add to it in such a way that the compositions derives from the image underneath. They are not forced, and its obvious. Nice work.
